As my husband and I work in healthcare, we understand the challenges nursing staff face each day. We wanted to take this opportunity to let Jake Forbess know how much his care meant to us.

We were blessed to have Jake as “our” nurse for 4 of the 6 days we were there. My husband presented to the ED with neck pain. We assumed he would have been tested, given meds, and discharged to see an ortho.

The shock of our lives came when we were told my husband was anemic and had bilateral pulmonary emboli and needed immediate admission. Through this admission and workup, there were multiple incidental findings, including a 4.2 cm aortic aneurysm and a small tumor in his brain. As you can expect, this was extremely distressing to my husband. Let me tell you about our angel…

Every day, Jake came into my husband’s room with a smile, encouragement, and the strength to hold my husband and me up. It was because of Jake that we did not crumble. He ensured that my husband was given the time to rest and went out of his way to ensure that he was safe but, most importantly, that he stayed positive and that he would get through this “nightmare.” Jake's empathy, compassion, and competence put us at ease and his ability to see all the positives was a blessing. We can only hope that Jake is aware of the difference he made in a very scary time in our lives. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. “You” will never be forgotten!
