I know Steve is an exceptional person and nurse and saw him in action firsthand the other day with a patient's family member. We had a very sick patient come in and her husband was very upset after hearing some not very great news. With everything going on and what he felt was said, the husband was very angry. After speaking to the husband, I asked Steve to assist me in trying to reassure and calm him. Steve did so without hesitation and he took the time to really listen to the family member. He then very calmly and compassionately spoke to him and told him all that was going on and what was going to happen. By the time he was done, the husband relaxed and was very thankful. He was able to then leave here knowing that his wife was going to be in great hands. It was not what Steve said, because anyone could have said those exact words, but it was HOW he said it. That is what made the difference. The husband felt listened to and cared for and that is what is important.
