Steve Bailey is the epitome of a nurse who is dedicated to providing extraordinary service and compassionate care to all patients and families. Prior to me leading the Emergency Department at FWCH, I had very little interaction with Steve. I would pass him in the hallway and we would exchange hellos. Being in the ED, I have had the opportunity to interact with Steve as well as observe his interactions with patients. It was easy to recognize the vast amount of knowledge and experience that Steve holds in his mind and heart.
Steve uses every moment of interaction with patients and families to teach and explain what is happening and what to expect. I have noticed the kindness and warmth of his voice along with the explanations being delivered in a manner that the patient and family can understand. I have witnessed patients' and family's faces change from that of concern to that of ease, with explanations of treatments.
As a colleague, I can personally speak to the vast knowledge that Steve has, particularly in the world of the ED. My transition to the ED has been overwhelming at times but Steve is quick to put things at ease. When I reach out to him, he is quick to respond. He responds in a manner that puts me at ease for asking. He will come by my office randomly asking if there is anything I need help with. He has spent several hours talking with me making sure I am making decisions about the ED with the most up to date information. He willingly shares information to make sure I am prepared and successful because he wants our patients and team cared for in the best possible manner. Steve is well respected by the ED team, our community EMS crews, providers and anyone else who has had the pleasure of interacting with him.
Steve is passionate about patient care and team member safety. He does not settle for less than what he would expect for himself or his family. Steve has a true servant's heart and is a true DAISY Nurse.
