This past summer we had a patient who was terminal and became an organ donor. Steve was very involved in the case to the point that he picked up extra shifts to follow this patient. He coordinated care with the donation team and accompanied the patient to the OR for harvesting. He has since become Summit's liaison with the Donor Network. We admitted a patient from the cath lab who ended up coding at shift change. Steve worked this code (along with others), and even though he had been on shift all day he went with the patient back to the cath lab and stayed until the gentleman expired later that night. Steve has been involved with the advancement of our AICU system with the ICU staff. Steve is very involved in the residency program here. He formally presents the program to the NPC students and is a part of the committee that selects the residents. He seldom works a shift without a preceptee, orientee or resident. I believe Steve is a great example of going above and beyond for the patients and Summit Healthcare.
