May 2023 Honoree
Steve Tatum, BSN, RN
Since I have been in a shift supervisor role, I have been able to work with the CRTs for almost every call they receive to the Med/Surg service line. Steve goes out of his way when he is CRT to provide patients with a calm, confident approach that appears almost effortless. He also uses his role as CRT to provide education to patients and staff about what is happening, why we are doing things we are, and what the different assessments and diagnostics may tell us. While he is with the patients, he is frequently heard telling them they are in good hands and that their primary nurse is an expert. Steve makes it easy to remember to take a breath during stressful intense situations. He is easy to approach. Steve asks questions, debriefs about things and we can pick his brain to learn. He provides reassurance and comfort to our patients and staff during times that may feel incredibly intimidating. I have learned so much just by watching Steve during CRT calls. I can’t thank him enough for all he does for every area of St. Mary’s Hospital. I always look forward to working with him.
Thank you, Steve, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
