Steven is one of the most exemplary nurses we’ve ever had the privilege of working under. As we write this in the middle of the night, he is currently in an intubated patient’s room washing her hair. Despite being the charge nurse tonight and not being his patient, he’s taking the time to ask her how she wears it at home, and combining it to her exact preference. This isn’t the first, or hundredth time he’s done something like this in the 6 months since our unit has been open. We watch him go above and beyond not only for patients, but for his nurses every single shift. He is the first to come in, the first volunteer if you need a turn or clean up and the nurse you want next to you during a code. He makes personalized lab bags for every patient, will triple himself before anyone else, and has our backs every single time we need him. The night shift team in the SICU wants to honor him for his incredible standard of care, and the way he takes care of both us and his patients.
