On Sunday starting early A.M. a patient coded and was moved to ICU. Steve was called to ICU to help in the code with CPR. The patient's prognosis was not good and case management, as well as one of the Trauma MDs, were trying to update family as well as encourage them to come to the hospital. Steve's co-worker decided to assist with the transportation of the patient's wife since she does not drive and could not get ahold of a ride. Steve immediately offered to go pick up the patient's wife in his vehicle so this couple could be together for his last moments. The co-worker and Steve drove together to provide support to the patient's wife and each other. I feel Steve's compassion and empathy went above and beyond.
