She asked Steven to get her grits; he brought them to her on Monday morning first thing but she was not in the room.
Steven Gilliland is a man that loved my Mom; he held her hand, prayed with her, he became her person in CCU. He never missed a shift without calling me. This man is also a full-time fireman. He did not work the weekend Mom passed away; he had to work his fireman job and would be back on Monday. She asked him to get her grits; he brought them to her on Monday morning first thing but she was not in the room. I could hear the devastation in his voice when we spoke. We have never met in person, but we laughed, cried, told stories, and he is now a part of our family. This is what the nurses are doing for our family members. They do not get the credit they deserve. I have no way to repay them for being with my parents when we could not due to COVID. You are my hero, Steven Gilliland, along with your fellow nurses in CCU and nurses everywhere.
