Steve is always looking to connect on a personal level with his patient and always tries to bring smiles to their faces. He always has a smile on his face and assumes good intentions of all, which I know is not always the easiest. He is a compassionate nurse and always has his patients' best interest in mind and will go out of his way for them, even if it means coming in on his day off.
One example of this: we had a young, non-English speaking patient who has been our floor for a very long time. The patient had been struggling with depression and anxiety related to being in the hospital for so long. The patient had also been medically fragile and unable to go back home on the east coast where his family is. Steve took care of this patient off and on over the months and noticed the patient was interested in martial arts. Steve came in on his day off and brought in some nunchucks and gave a demonstration on how to use them. This made the patient laugh and smile, which had not been seen very often if at all. That same day Steve brought in some specialty cookies from Great Harvest for this patient and another patient on our floor that was struggling with appetite and eating.
