If you’ve ever had to go to the neurology department, you know how painful it can be. To feel like you don’t have control of your body is very stressful, disheartening, and painful. I’ve been here for five days, and I had spinal surgery. Steven has been my nurse for two days. I wish he could have been for all five. He is kind and compassionate. He is always suggesting ways to make sure I’m as comfortable as possible.

I’m 28, and not being able to move at my age feels embarrassing. Steven is adamant that taking care of myself now, however I can, will make me stronger. He is encouraging. I have a hard time moving because of pain and fear. He makes me feel comfortable and takes his time walking me through what I need to do. I haven’t once felt like a bother to him at all. He doesn’t rush me or make me feel like an item on his list. He has said, “It’s not about what is easier for me, it’s what’s best for you. How can I help you right now?” And “it’s not about me, it’s about you, my job is to make sure you’re okay.”

Truly, he is a professional. If there’s an issue like with my urinary retention, he was the first to explain it in a way that made sense. He reached out to the doctors for me to get relief as soon as possible. He has truly helped my recovery experience with his kindness. You don’t choose to have surgery like this, but if I had to again, I would choose Steven Reyes to help me through it, for making me feel safe and cared for.

Thank you, Steven, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
