January 2026 Honoree
Stevie Shoemaker, RN
My husband was throwing up blood. Stevie was very respectful and caring to my husband. My husband is non-verbal due to 6 strokes. He wanted to leave and go to a different hospital. She spoke to him very gently and told him she was not trying to talk him out of leaving, but needed to explain, by law, what could happen on the way to another hospital. He didn't want an IV in his neck. They had already tried once. It was too painful. Stevie was able to communicate and verbalize enough compassion to my husband that she was able to get an IV in his hand. She actually started tearing up herself. My husband had tears. She has such a calm presence about her. We have been going through hospitals and ERs for 14 years now. This is the time I have felt compelled to fill out a DAISY for a nurse. Not that we haven't encountered good nurses. But Stevie is outstanding! The time and dedication she took to care for my husband alone were felt. And we both knew she truly cared! We weren't just a number going through a factory.
Thank you, Stevie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
