I was brought in from vacation as an emergency room patient to the ICU with Giant Cell Myocaritis and in need of a heart transplant. All of the nurses who tended to me in the ICU are exceptional. Stewart is extraordinary in his care. Every day he goes above and beyond in the special care he gives to his patients. At a time when I and my family were dealing with the shock of my diagnosis, Stewart was able to support us with his caring and sincere attitude. He radiates positive energy that lifts your spirits and makes you feel you will get better. It's hard to be in the hospital, especially for a lengthy period of time and Stewart always goes that extra step to make you comfortable. When I ordered my breakfast and talked about how I always put cinnamon on my oatmeal, he made sure to find some for me. This seems like a small thing but it kept my routine and made me feel like myself. When I got stronger, Stewart figured out a way to get me to the toilet instead of the commode, which made me feel a sense of dignity. As the days went by and I could only get a glimpse of the sun from my bed, he figured out a routine to get me outside. He cleared it with my doctor and found an outside deck where I could breathe in the summer air and feel the sun. This was tremendous after spending so much time in bed.
Stewart listens to his patients and their families, he tries to make everyone, including family members comfortable and cared for. He advocates for his patients and is always looking for solutions. After 3 weeks in the ICU, my hair was badly in need of a cut and he found out how to get that done. I felt like a million bucks! My family and I feel very lucky to have Stewart as a nurse, he is exceptional. I have been a supervisor as a Police Chief and people like Stewart are rare. His professionalism and caring attitude are a tribute to the hospital's leading reputation for patient care.
