I would like to nominate NCH School Nurse, Sue Becker, RN. Sue is a compassionate, caring nurse that not only gives to the students and staff she works with, but to the families as well.

Sue runs a very busy school clinic that has lots of procedures in the course of the day; giving daily medications to students to help them be successful in their day to helping students with Type I Diabetes learn to count carbs and deliver insulin for breakfast and lunch. She always is there with a smile and never loses her patience when her clinic volume is very large and there are many things going on at the same time. Sue goes on the Daily news at school where the students can send in questions for the nurse and she answers; she goes into classrooms and teaches them hygiene and nutrition. She has a wonderful relationship with all she is around and is such a positive person to work with.

A situation that stands out as above and beyond for me is when a student that had pulmonary hypertension became very ill. Sue had been involved with this student and his family for several years. Sue went to meet with the family after work when the doctors were giving the report to the family. Sue was there, helping them to understand what was being said. She spent many afternoons with the family as they struggled with many decisions in their son's care. Unfortunately, the son did not recover, but Sue continued to help the family. She organized fundraisers/donations for the family to help offset the cost of funeral expenses.

Sue is a wonderful example of a nurse that truly lives the value as an NCH Nurse.
