These patients are scared, and she takes them by the hand (literally, in some cases)
Sue Ellen consistently leads patients with abnormal mammograms through the difficult process of breast biopsy through after-surgical care (when necessary), using unparalleled compassion and her extensive knowledge of cancer due to her years of service as an Oncology nurse prior to joining us in Breast Imaging. These patients are scared, and she takes them by the hand (literally, in some cases), making sure that they understand what to expect, what to do, and when to do it, making sure that no one falls through the cracks. She personally calls these patients with their biopsy results, mixing in her subtle humor to make it more "human" for them, and always takes the time to talk about anything...medical related or not, which is just what some patients need...another human being to talk to. She has researched all forms of support in the area, including such things as aromatherapy so that she can offer any/all of these to patients as they go through the process. Patients often refer to Sue Ellen as their friend, not their nurse, which is probably the best compliment that I can give!
