Sue Ludwig would be my recommendation as an extraordinary nurse.
Writing one of these is not my strong suit. As days pass since my discharge, it seems that giving recognition gets pushed back and many times forgotten. For this group of nurses, that would be tragic and unfair. Looking back at other hospital stays, this is by far the best group of nurses that I have ever received care from. It almost seems unfair to try to list all the nurses involved in my road to recovery, as my memory is fading. I offer my apologies to the others I have forgotten earlier. I referred to these individuals as a group, but that is unfair. This group is a team. Being from the military, that is not a word I take lightly.
First of all, knowing the end desired result, functioning together to achieve this goal, always being professional and knowledgeable, and always being positive and never pushing blame when things aren’t going as planned. There was never a time that I questioned my care team’s professionalism or knowledge of their profession. There was never a time when my needs were ignored. If there was a delay, all was explained to me, or another team member picked up the slack. No matter what part of the team was doing their job, no one was ever belittled or disrespected. It was always an air of respect and courtesy.
In my opinion, they all deserve this recognition and this award. Although all these people are deserving, if I had to choose someone who I felt stood out, that would be Sue Ludwig. The day after surgery, I called, and she was helping me to the restroom. I was a fall risk, and she was assisting me. My right leg locked up, and I couldn’t move. Fear grabbed me as I was just standing there, unable to move, and that to me is worse than being completely helpless. Sue was there with me and calmed me down and talked to me, finding out I could move without pain backwards. She got me safely on the recliner, then guided my leg back into bed. Through all my "ohing" and "awing" she remained caring and very calm. She is the person you can count on and trust when you need help and assistance. Sue Ludwig would be my recommendation as an extraordinary nurse.
