December 2025 Honoree
Sue M Olson, RN, BSN
| My daughter was in Hospice due to a rare cancer, ALK+. She had resistance factors that prevented her from benefiting from long-term treatment. B spent significant time at OSF St. Anthony for appointments, hospitalizations, and eventually hospice care. Her oncologist pursued Compassionate Medications, but these were halted by the federal government. As a Registered Nurse with 25 years of Pre-op/Post-op experience, I stayed with her throughout this journey. Sue Olson, RN at OSF St. Anthony Hospice, was assigned to support B and our family during end-of-life care. Sue allowed me to be a mother, not a nurse, during this deeply emotional time. She was consistently present, offering strength and compassion from her first visit to B’s home until my daughter’s final heartbeat. Sue helped me bathe and dress B in her favorite pajamas before Science Care Donation arrived. Her care and presence were invaluable, and I truly don’t know how I would have managed without her. Sue Olson, RN, is deeply deserving of the DAISY Award for her unwavering commitment to patients and their families. |
Thank you, Sue M, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
