I was recently a patient at your fine hospital and this nurse went out of her way to make my stay a very uplifting experience. I was sent to Sukhvir's floor from ICU after 48 hours in a very scary situation and she proceeded to help prepare me for being allowed to go home, instead of maybe having to stay a few more days.
Now almost every nurse I had during my stay was very kind and took good care of me, I have no complaints at all, but Sukhvir Johal was just a bit more than was required. I had just been through a life-threatening experience. I had suffered from renal failure and hyperkalemia and could have died. When I was brought down to her department it was late in the evening so I did not have much activity with the nurse on duty at the time, she basically checked on me and made me comfortable, and I slept the rest of the night.
When Ms. Johal came on duty the next morning I had a lot of questions about my well-being and when I would be able to go home, and she took the time to explain to me what had to take place before that could happen. Knowing that I was anxious, she made sure that all of the doctors that were responsible for me were notified and able to check up on me, and instead of keeping me in the dark, she came and explained to me what was going on.
It's hard to explain, but there was just something about her that I knew she actually cared about me as a person, and that helped me to get better. When I asked her if I was going to go home, she said not to get my hopes up until all of the doctors had seen me, and since it was a Saturday, it may have to wait.
Sukhvir did everything in her power to make sure I was ready to be discharged if it was possible, and even called my wife to let her know what was going on. I would really like to see her rewarded for her efforts. I understand from her she has only been a nurse for about a year and she is doing an excellent job, and you should be proud to have her as an employee in your wonderful hospital.
