Summer Schneiss, RN

I would like to nominate Summer for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion, skill, and support she provided during our daughter's birth. My labor and delivery were long and emotionally exhausting. I was dilating very slowly, and our baby girl was experiencing heart decelerations with every contraction. Throughout the entire process, Summer remained calm, attentive, and incredibly supportive. She worked tirelessly to help labor progress by assisting me through many different positions while closely monitoring my baby’s heart rate. Her presence brought reassurance during an incredibly stressful situation.

After delivery, things became even more frightening when our baby girl was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and was not breathing due to fluid in her lungs. As the medical team rushed our baby to the warmer and began resuscitation efforts, Summer stayed right by my side holding my hand. She recognized how distressed I was and knew I could not see what was happening. She compassionately talked me through every step the team was taking to help my baby and clear her airways, helping me remain calm during the scariest moment of my life. Thankfully, our daughter recovered quickly, and we were reunited soon afterward.

Even after the emergency had passed and everyone else had left the room, Summer continued caring for me with the same kindness and dedication. She helped me get cleaned up, cleaned my hospital room while I showered, and continued checking on our family throughout the night. I will never forget the care Summer provided. Her compassion, professionalism, attentiveness, and emotional support made an unimaginable experience more bearable. I am forever grateful that she was by my side through one of the most frightening and vulnerable moments of my life. She truly embodies everything the DAISY Award represents.
