Summer is probably the most hard-working, caring, kind, and compassionate nurse I have ever come across.
Summer has shown true patient-centered and collaborative work recently on L24. We had a patient who very sadly had a terminal diagnosis whilst an inpatient on L24. Her daughter was due to get married this year, so it was unlikely that her mother would be well enough to attend at this time. The family asked if there was a way the ward could help arrange a wedding while Mum was in the hospital with us. Summer worked with family members, the chaplaincy team, therapy teams, and medical teams and was able to arrange for the legal wedding to go ahead in the chapel at the LGI. Mum and daughter were able to get ready for the big day together, and the family was able to create lasting happy memories during such a sad and difficult time for them. I am so proud of Summer and the dedication she shows to her patients and the team. She truly embodies the Leeds Way values for all patients and co-workers.

Summer is probably the most hard-working, caring, kind, and compassionate nurse I have ever come across; she goes above and beyond what is expected of a nurse. Last month a patient that had been with us a few weeks was given the devastating news that she was terminal and deteriorating daily. She mentioned that her daughter was getting married, and Summer realized the patient would not be around for the occasion, so she came in on her days off, contacted the chaplaincy, and arranged a wedding in the LGI chapel a day before the patient was being transferred to a hospice. Not only did she arrange the wedding, but she also arranged gifts, cakes, flowers, balloons, etc., to decorate the room. I cannot put into words how amazing she is if only I could attach the letter from the family involved and how she touched their hearts and gave them a special day in such sad circumstances. The family was so thankful that she had gone to so much trouble to give the patient some happy memories that would keep her going in her final days. Summer, I think you are amazing, and I know on L24 I am not the only one that thinks this of you.
