Sun Kim, RN, a staff nurse on the Headache Unit at Jefferson’s Methodist Hospital was nominated by her co-worker who witnessed the tender compassion and comfort Sun provided to a young patient. Here is an excerpt from the nomination letter:
“Sun is an exceptional nurse and always shows compassion towards her patients, their families and others. One day Sun was caring for a young woman who was having a difficult time struggling to get through the day. Sun spent the morning with the patient and learned that recently she had buried her premature infant who had died due to complications. It was now the second month anniversary of the baby’s death and she was distraught. Sun spent considerable time consoling and talking with the patient. At one point she asked me cover her other patients since there was something she had to do for this patient.
My co-workers and I watched as Sun returned to the patient’s room with a stuffed animal and flowers she had purchased from the gift shop. She placed the flowers on the bedside table, placed the stuffed animal under the patient’s arm and gave her a big hug. The patient looked at Sun and told her ‘this was the best thing anybody has ever done for me!’”
That day Sun not only touched the heart of the patient but touched the heart of her co-workers as well.
