Sundy went above and beyond for our sweet new little family, and we will forever be grateful that she was our nurse.
We welcomed our baby girl into the world via planned c-section. All of my nurses and my daughter's nurses were absolutely fabulous. They made sure that we were well cared for and knowledgeable about what was going on/happening in an unknown and a tad scary situation. Sundy Wagner was my dayshift FCU nurse for all three days. Day 1 of our stay, Sundy said her goal for me was to be able to walk to the bathroom by the end of her shift.

Although my legs were coming back, they were still numb by the end of her shift. When trying to get up to walk for the first time, I didn't notice (but she did) that my legs started shaking, and it appeared that my knees were going to buckle. Sundy immediately had me sit back down and said I wasn't ready to try to walk just yet, but I was getting closer. When she left at the end of her shift, she asked if she could hug me and assured me that my night nurse would take fabulous care of me and that she'd be back in the morning.

On day 2, she came back enthusiastic about me reaching my goal during the night. She set a new goal for me to reach by the end of her shift: to walk down the hall and back two separate times. She would ask me to rate my pain on a scale of 1-10, and I'd normally rate it between 1-3 (trying to save my higher numbers for if I truly felt awful). After the second walk down the hall, right when her shift was ending, I was hurting and pretty sore. She could tell I wasn't being honest about my pain. She assured me that it was not a bad thing if I needed stronger medicine that night, and I'm thankful I did because I needed it.

On day 3, we were approved for discharge. I was a nervous wreck and scared to take our newborn home. When Sundy asked if we were ready to be discharged, I immediately got emotional thinking about having to take care of this newborn baby girl and not having nurses around in case something went wrong. Sundy hugged me and told me that she understood why I was scared. She assured me that I could stay another night if that would make me feel better, but she knew we could go home and would be just fine. I knew that we had to go home at some point, and there was no point in taking up a room someone else could use if we didn't truly need it. Sundy took the time to explain in depth the discharge paperwork, answered all my questions and concerns, and calmed my fears. When it was an extremely busy day, she pushed me down to my car in the wheelchair and helped us into our car.

I feel extremely lucky to have gotten Sundy as my nurse on the day of my delivery and even luckier that I was able to continue having her for the rest of my stay. Sundy made it a point to talk to my husband and me, not only on a patient-to-nurse level but on a personal level. Sundy went above and beyond for our sweet new little family, and we will forever be grateful that she was our nurse. If we have another baby, we will 1000% request Sundy to be our FCU nurse. She is truly the best of the best and has definitely found her callin.
