Three years ago, the facility received a request from a Georgia state surveyor asking if they would accept a patient that was unhappy at his current facility. One of the challenges Sugarloaf faced was that our medical director had previously cared for the patient, and had discharged the patient from his care. Suni recognized the need to care for this patient, and asked the Medical Director to reconsider accepting this patient. The patient was struggling with his diagnosis, psychological issues, and a lack of family support. Suni focused on meeting the patient where he was and helped create a caring environment where he felt recognized and a connection to the team. She actively uses WE CARE behaviors, not only with him but with all of our patients and team. She is trusted by all, and continues to find ways to improve our clinical outcomes, most recently helping the facility receive a 5 Star recognition!
