Sunny noticed an error in one of the assessment questions which provided an incorrect answer as the solution to a math problem.
Surinder "Sunny" Singh is a current student in our RN Program. Recently, he was participating in a math module within our online comprehensive assessment and review program. During the module, Sunny noticed an error in one of the assessment questions which provided an incorrect answer as the solution to a math problem. He brought this error to the attention of the lead faculty, who reviewed the question with the student. She found this error to be true and contacted the online program for clarification. The online program researched the error and agreed that there was a mistake and took the steps to edit the item. They expressed thanks for bringing the concern to their attention. They stated that they "always appreciate feedback in [their] continuous efforts to ensure quality products" which are utilized by 2500 nursing programs across the country.
The lead faculty then notified Sunny of the result of his observation and the outcome after notifying the faculty. She further provided the following feedback: "Part of the process of creating an environment and culture in healthcare organizations that works toward identifying safety issues is 'challenge the process'. Within this element is an individual’s comfort in calling out to the team when there is concern by anyone within the team. Although this was not a situation where anyone could have been harmed, you took the initiative to raise the question. To my knowledge, no one has done it thus far in using this module and activity. Kudos to you! As you join the profession of nursing soon, always keep that ability and comfort with professionally challenging the process and asking questions. These qualities will make you a better nurse and leader."
As one of the nursing faculty for this student, a champion of the online assessment and review program, and a nurse who understands the process of improving our practice, Sunny Singh is already demonstrating the qualities of an excellent nurse. The best is yet to come for him.Â
