Susan Baich, RN, Critical Care Nurse in the Surgical ICU at Buffalo General Medical Center received The DAISY Award in recognition of her compassion and commitment to excellence in Nursing. Sue was nominated by a coworker who described her as modest, empathetic, kind, and someone who always takes the time to listen to and comfort her patients.
The following is an excerpt from a letter that a former patient wrote to Sue:
"While you may think that you did nothing out of your ordinary day – to me you were above and beyond! Not only were you my caregiver, my Nurse, my hand to hold, and my shoulder to cry on, you were also my newfound friend. Please know that you were my lifeline (since my family couldn't be with me). You were my encourager. You gave me hope. You made me smile and we shared a few laughs. You were meant to be a Nurse. You are so smart, kind, and compassionate. I am forever grateful for you and how hard you worked to help me. You are one in a million."
