There is not one part of the Big Creek experience that Sue has not examined to determine if there were a way to make an improvement.
I am celebrating my nurse leader, Susan Bianco. I have worked with Susan for over 5 years and without hesitation, she has made an impact on patient care, patient safety, staff engagement, and definitely on me and how I conduct myself in my nursing practice. Listed are a few of the ways Sue has made an impact.

First and foremost, Susan's primary focus is patient care and safety. From the moment a case is scheduled at Big Creek it is guaranteed that every step has been taken to ensure that physicians are aware of any issues, that we have up-to-date equipment so to decrease the chance of infection, that staff are thoroughly trained, and prepared to take care of patients and patients have a positive outcome. There is not one part of the Big Creek experience that Sue has not examined to determine if there were a way to make an improvement.

On a personal and professional note, I have never worked with/for an administrator that is not intimidated or threatened by others' success. In fact, Sue encourages all to excel. Personally, Sue encouraged me to obtain my BSN in 2021. She supported me when I wanted to give up. I know for a fact she encouraged others to acquire certifications and degrees, also writing recommendations.

By writing this you would think we never have heavy discussions, you would be WRONG. I am held accountable just like everyone else, maybe even more so. However, when there is an issue, what I appreciate is that we find a solution and move forward. It doesn't get dragged out. In the end, we do what is best for Big Creek and our patients. It is not always pleasant getting "called out", but it's part of growing and learning. One of the Best qualities I have learned from Sue is the skill of listening. I tend to jump in and talk. By using this skill, I find I'm listening more to patients, staff and even using the skill in my everyday life. It is a skill that I am continuing to try and master. Sue has got it down. Sue has made many improvements to increase both patient and staff satisfaction. For these reasons and more, I nominate my as I call her "boss/friend" for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
