I was rounding on a Staurday afternoon with our CEO, while we were there, a patient with a history of a traumatic brain injury became increasingly agitated and threatening toward staff. Susan , who was the nurse assigned to this patient, was talking with the paitent in an attempt to calm him. A code grey was activated, and Security staff arrived to help manage the situation. Thoughout the event, Susan remained close to and engaged the patient in conversation, even at his most unstable moments. She adjusted her voice and focus, assuring him his behavior was not his fault. Although this patient was extremely violent at times, she maintained a compassionate approach, which ultimately helped him regain control. She didn't leave his side untill he stablized and it was evident she had developed a connection with him.
