Susan constantly shows compassionate care to her patients and families by going above and beyond her daily nursing duties. Recently, we had a young patient who became quickly and completely paralyzed and on the ventilator. Susan found an inspirational video of a 6B patient who recovered and showed it to her patient. Susan's patient walked into our quad last week to show us her amazing recovery and to tell Susan how the only positive thing she remembered from her lengthy stay was the video that encouraged her and gave her hope.
Susan admitted a patient who was concerned and anxious as she had a dog at home and had no family or resources available to care for her dog. Susan took her patient's keys, drove to the patient's house after her shift and made sure the dog was cared for. She also enlisted the help of the patient's neighbor to provide care for the dog while the patient was hospitalized.
These are just two small examples out of many that exemplify the type of compassion and dedication that Susan shows to her patients, families and the profession of nursing.
