Their sound filled the room as if they were a choir of angels. My mom has always been a singer, and as she knew the song very well, she felt comfortable enough to sing from her heart and let her sound soar.
My mom has been at Abington now for 5 days with a really bad case of shingles along with dementia, depression, and memory loss. As Sue walked into Mom’s room, she raised the positivity and energy levels, which immediately sparked a response from my mom. They immediately found common ground to communicate on as married females sharing that some time away from one’s spouse (males) is not always a bad thing. And with that, they went to a place of bonding and laughter. When Sue was ending one of her stories she shared with Mom, she sang the last word and Mom joined in, as they each had a great singing voice. Their sound filled the room as if they were a choir of angels. My mom has always been a singer, and as she knew the song very well, she felt comfortable enough to sing from her heart and let her sound soar. And this is a woman with an extreme case of shingles, depression, despondency, and memory loss! I applaud Sue for being determined enough to celebrate her love for life, her job and for caring enough for her patients to share that love with.
