Today I called a nursing student to discuss a position in the Nurse Residency Program. When I mentioned Sue to the candidate, she said to me, “I have to take a minute to tell you how much I love Sue!” She told me how supportive Sue was toward her staff and how she always made time to ask her how school was going. The candidate recently decided to leave her position as a PCA so she could concentrate on school. She stated the decision was difficult and she went to Sue for advice. Sue said to her, “I do not want to see you go because I will miss having you on the unit, but you need to do what is best for you and your education.” The candidate stated it was Sue that gave her the confidence she needed to leave her job and devote her time to her nursing degree. Sue is a valuable member of the nursing leadership team and is filled with kindness, support, and strength. She leads by example and is a role model to nurses. It is my distinct honor to nominate Sue Wells for the DAISY Leader Award.
