I'm not very good at expressing words so bear with me. It's just that this nurse has touched our family's heart and we have felt it worth acknowledging her.
My brother was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and that metastasized into his bones then finally to his brain. At a time when a family is left with the feeling of being overwhelmed caring for him by ourselves at home we brought him here to the Regional Hospice House and received the comfort and care for him we hoped for. His wife and children felt more relaxed since they could trust his care here.
In an outstanding way, we came to have a personal attachment to Susan, one of his many nurses. While all the nurses brought their own kind and personal touches, Susan stood out in her compassion, knowledge, and ability to reassure us that he was getting the best care through the many stages and changes he went through with his end of life journey.
It felt good to be able to count on Susan's assuring words of what to expect next and how to comfort him. We hold such great respect for her. We all came to refer to her as our favorite nurse. We would look forward to when she would be on shift.
Long after his journey home to Heaven when the memories here at Hospice House arise, they will include her most endearingly!
