It is Sue's everyday commitment to not only the patients on 5500 but her dedication to our staff that makes her a DAISY Nurse. 5500 has a sensitive and difficult patient population, and Sue has a hand in ensuring that each and every patient has a few extra minutes of special attention. Who shaved my patient? It was Sue. Who got my patient that candy bar he's been asking for? It was Sue. She can be found at any given moment providing education to a new nurse, making sure everyone has a break when she doesn't get one herself, or helping a patient make the hardest decision they've ever made regarding their care. She wears several hats such as Clinical Educator and charge nurse, and when no one knows what to do about something, the answer is always, "ask Sue." Recently, we even had a patient get married on our unit, and somehow Sue took on the role of wedding coordinator. Sue does what she does with no expectations of thanks or praise, and has never done her job with the hopes of recognition. She does her job because she is passionate, dedicated and has true compassion.
