Susan Oroko, RN
My husband was admitted to the 5th floor after a fall, during which he broke his L1 and T12. He was unable to get out of bed for 2 days due to needing a back brace and an X-ray. I am a retired nurse and stayed the first night and during the following days. I help my husband with hygiene, bathing, and changing bed linens. When he was able to get up, I was concerned about skin integrity because he was not being log-rolled. In changing linens, I found a plastic cup under him and an eye case.
On Thursday evening, our nurse Susan came in and spent 45 minutes to 1 hour doing a total body assessment, including skin assessment. She spent time assessing head to toe. She noticed bruising on arms and legs. she removed and IV that was no longer working, she provided pain relief for Craig, explaining why he needed the pain meds. Susan cared for Craig's physical needs as a competent Registered Nurse. She not only looked into the injury that brought him to the hospital but considered him as a whole person, created in the image of God. From my observation, Susan is an RN who loves her job, and she sees her role as a patient advocate. Susan is kind and Compassionate. Her role as an RN goes beyond vital signs and medication dispensing. She cares for the patient as a whole: body, spirit, and mind. As a former nurse, I was encouraged to see her love of nursing evident in her compassionate patient care. Susan is a DAISY Nurse because she is an extraordinary nurse. She goes above and beyond in caring for her patients, and this evening I was able to be with her family.

Susan was the nurse we had for my dad's morning shift. She was so caring, so informative, and truly compassionate during her shift with my dad. Every family member who was there that day noticed the care she provided and was happy and impressed. A breathing canister sat on my dad's bedside the entire time. We never knew what it was for. Susan kindly explained to my dad that, with his cough, the canister would help expand his lungs and ease the coughing. She showed him how to breathe in and out of it properly. I was happy to see that it had helped my dad. My dad loved having Susan as his nurse, and he smiled and awoke every time she came in. Her outstanding love and genuine care shine through in her work. Susan is an excellent nurse and does her job well. Susan definitely deserves recognition for her love and care for her patients.
