Susan is an Extraordinary Nurse who embodies MFSMC SPIRIT values even though she is relatively new to the Medstar Family. We have a saying, “It’s how we treat people, “but this nominee carried the meaning to fruition by allowing the SPIRIT values to guide their actions. Her caring and mothering personality does not go unnoticed when on duty. The nominee’s kind personality comes naturally as she willingly changes her workflow to nurture someone in need. She is an individual that tries to make a difference when she is working. Tower 5 had an associate that REQUIRED a rapid response, and her presence and style of leadership improved a problematic situation in the unit because of her attentiveness and compassion. The nominee assessed the nurse during the RRT and stayed with him in triage for an hour. The nominee kept his wife informed, as well as the t5 charge RN. The nominee continued to check on the nurse during his stay until he was discharged at 0330. The associate, who is an RN, wanted the nominee to know how much he appreciated her kindness and compassion.

Being special involves finding the unique inner core that radiates throughout an individual. The nominee essentialized teamwork and collaboratively built a bond between the team through communication and mutual respect. Susan went about and beyond to help the associate feel safe during a difficult time!
