I was not doing well after my surgery, but Susan made sure to communicate with the doctors to ensure I got what I needed to be comfortable throughout the night. She was able to read my body language and knew how hard it was for me to express how I was feeling. She then planned to make sure I was able to sleep without being bothered, as sleep for me in the hospital was nonexistent because I constantly worried about not getting my medication at night. Susan proved herself to be someone I could count on.

When my parents went back home, she sat on the floor and held my hand when I was feeling sick. She definitely has a heart of gold and would make me laugh through the pain. She never made me feel alone, and I am genuinely grateful for that. Being in the hospital is scary and full of unknowns, but having a nurse who sees you, recognizes your fears, anticipates your needs, and has the courage to advocate on your behalf makes it bearable.
