Susan took care of a patient several nights in a row and developed a relationship with the patient's family. The family eventually decided to compassionately withdraw care and allow the patient to pass away with dignity. They requested that Susan be present when the patient was extubated. Susan worked the night before and was scheduled to work again that night, but when the day shift nurse called Susan asking if she could come to work early to be with this patient and her family Susan came in early. She was with the family from the time the patient was extubated until she passed away. Susan is very honest with families and creates a mutually respectful relationship with them. She shows great compassion and empathy for grieving families. She is always an advocate for her patients.
