We recently had a young patient that had a horrific accident leading to life changing injuries. There were approximately 75 family members waiting on the edge of their chairs to find out any bit of information they could just to know this patient was going to be okay. Sue was the PACU nurse on that night and I think it was fate. I stopped by to see if I could assist Sue. Her main concern was always on the patient but she knew she was taking care of a large family as well. While Sue took extra time to make sure the patient was well cared for, she asked that I grab family two or three at a time because she said "I know they just have to put their eyes on her". I watched as Sue not only assisted in healing the patient, but was also to start healing the family as well. Sue asked if I would help implement her orders so when she arrived to SICU she would be able to rest. She even went as far as assisting to bring the patient to CT Scan with me.
A week has now gone by and I was rounding and ran into this young girl's family. The first question they asked was about Sue and how they could recognize the great work that she and all the staff at Bridgeport Hospital has done. I told them I would take a few minutes tonight and nominate Sue for our DAISY Award. The family was delighted to hear that Sue would be recognized. Sue is a hero to this family, her dedication, skill and compassion make her a prime candidate for the DAISY Award.
