Last week we had a family in from out of town for a procedure. After the procedure was complete the physician decided that he wanted to keep the patient overnight and observe for complications. This overnight stay was unexpected and became a source of great anxiety for them. They were a long way from home, no family close, very limited resources and were very concerned about where the family members would be able to stay overnight because they did not have money for this. Susan gave them money to use for food. Another nurse was able to help them find a resource to stay overnight. These nurses were able to turn a difficult situation for the family into a very wonderful experience for them and reflected very well on themselves, their values and our hospital.
