I was diagnosed with fibroids a few years back. I was told my only option was to have a hysterectomy and I was heartbroken. I went for many years without seeking treatment because I was devastated. Fast-forward, in December 2019 I was hospitalized at HUMC for a DVT and PE. Blood clots caused by my large fibroids, more fear developed. I met a great team of doctors who fought to save my uterus. Why I give this background? I wanted to paint a picture of how emotionally, mentally, and physically drained I was. Surgery scared me, even though I wanted everyone to believe I was okay. After surgery, I went to 2 West in the Women's Building. The staff was amazing. They saw I was nervous and did everything to make my stay comfortable. I do want to recognize Susanna especially. She listed to me and did her best to calm my fears. She not only cared for my physical health, but she shared stories with me and spoke to my emotional healing as well. The staff of 2 West was heaven sent. As a fellow HMH member, I am proud to call those who cared for me in this difficult time family.
