Susana "Suzy" Pizano-Vega was assigned to an observational experience in the Wound Clinic. Suzy felt compelled to share one of her personal medical experiences with a patient who was going through a similar situation. The Wound Clinic nurse shared that Suzy asked appropriate questions and gave helpful suggestions and teaching. Specifically, she offered a suggestion that had worked well for her in helping a medical device stay in place when she experienced this as a patient herself. The staff nurse went on to share, that she felt that the patient deeply appreciated that the student nurse would share some of her own personal experiences, in hopes to make a patient's life better. The patient had been experiencing depression, and after Suzy shared with the patient, the patient shared that he felt less alone. According to the staff nurse, this patient had a long road ahead of him, and the staff nurse said she would like to think that having nurses like Suzy, will make his walk on that road a little easier.
