December 2019 Honoree
susana ruiz, RN
My daily plans abruptly changed. I became an inpatient and was scheduled for surgery. My case was delayed for several hours. I had had very little sleep and a lot of pain while I waited. I was so relieved when I was finally taken to the OR.
My nurse, Susie, continued to be by my side and was with me when they rolled me into the operating room. It was 8 pm. I could have hugged her neck that night when she continued to put her patient first. She politely and firmly told the CRNA to put me to sleep right there on the bed because moving me would hurt. She demonstrated her compassion and caring for her patient. She stood up for me when I was in no condition to speak for myself. Thank you for being there that night and your actions may seem minimal to others, but they gave me the healing touch that evening.

Thank you, Susana, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
