My best friend's father has struggled for over 20 years with drug addiction. Since I lived with them in High School, he stepped up and became a Dad to me too. Due to his addiction, he can often be stereotyped and judged. People do not see him for the man he is. A loving father and grandfather that does the best to be there for his family and avoid having drugs around them.

He had gone to another hospital before going to FSRMC and staff at that hospital told family he was faking the speech aphasia and confusion. When he collapsed leaving that hospital, security was called on him, and family had to fight for access to a wheelchair to carry him out themselves.

At FSRMC Susanna was his nurse. From the very beginning she never judged, stereotyped or ignored his symptoms. We were finally believed. Throughout the experience she showed patience with his confusion and agitation. She kept me and other family members informed while having the nicest personality.

He ended up having a 15mm ruptured brain aneurysm that required 6 coils placed in IR and 4 days later he was still in Neuro ICU. Without Susanna and other FSRMC staff in the ER believing us, he very well could have died.

Susanna is a perfect example of patient advocacy! She is an amazing nurse and person. We are forever grateful to her and other staff that assisted in his care.

Thank you, Susanna, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
