I was admitted to McAllen Medical Center. On the last day of my stay, I had the pleasure of having Susan as my nurse. Although Susan was my nurse for only a day, she left enough of an impression that I felt compelled to write about her and submit her name for consideration as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
From the start of her shift, Susan was nothing short of attentive to my needs and ensuring that I had a comfortable stay. Her friendly, warm demeanor and professional, yet approachable bedside manner left me quite impressed. Susan went above and beyond her care for me as my nurse. She made me feel as if I was being looked after by a member of my own family, instead of a hospital employee. I had been waiting since the previous evening to be seen by the on-call in order to receive a consultation and be cleared to possibly be discharged to go home. Susan knew I had been waiting since the previous day, and through her best efforts, made several calls to the on-call doctor to ensure that I would be seen before the end of her shift.
Although the doctor explained a possible cause, Susan could tell that I was not thoroughly comprehending what was explained. Without my asking, Susan was kind enough to print out several sheets of information further expounding on the doctor's explanation. Susan went above and beyond in providing an extraordinary level of care and sharing her warmth and compassion.
