A patient with severe pain due to a recent motorcycle crash with multiple fractures was discharged to home, which was 50 miles away. He, unfortunately, did not receive his opioid script because of a unit error. The patient was notably very upset. Susie not only managed the patient's frustration perfectly, but she also went above and beyond the curtails of a clinical coordinator by driving the script to the patient. She, through her compassion and dedication, helped a patient in need and preserved the patient's otherwise positive stay at VCU, which could have been strained by this snafu. VCU and the patient are better off because of Susie.
