We had a patient who came in after being in a car accident. She was pregnant with twins but was critically injured and in our ICU. We tried to keep her pregnant but with her injuries and the babies not tolerating the stress now, we had to deliver early at 24 weeks. Her babies went to NICU. We had the NICVIEW camera's set up so she could see them but it was a very critical time for her and both her babies. Unfortunately, she lost one of them about a week later. Suzanna first met her in the ICU when they were planning delivery. She said herself that she was very nervous to take care of such critical babies. She went out of her way and connected with this family and their baby so well. The mother (patient) was in the hospital for months and Spanish is her primary language. Suzanna made sure to find ways to communicate well with her and really built up such a great relationship with her while keeping her informed on what was happening with her baby. The mother had to go to rehab for a little bit and Suzanna made sure she was kept up to date with everything having to do with her baby's care. The baby ended up being in our NICU/NSCU for a little more than 4 months and was recently dismissed. I believe that Suzanna's encouragement throughout the stay is something that really helped this family (mom and dad) stay strong and work hard to be able to bring their baby home!  She truly defines caring for your patient! I am so proud to work with her.
