I’m writing to formally express my gratitude to a nurse who looked after me before, during, and after a procedure in the Interventional Radiology department last week. Suzanne Hoddy met me at pre-assessment, where I struggled to explain my nerves around the procedure. Suzanne listened and understood, asked questions, and respected my fears. She checked her diary and confirmed she’d be with me during the procedure, which made me feel safer. I was immensely grateful for this kind gesture, and this undoubtedly helped me and my anxiety in the lead-up to the appointment. The day before, she called me to check that I had received Diazepam from my GP to ensure a good night's sleep. This felt above and beyond even the best level of care I could have hoped for.

On the day, I believe she started her shift 15 minutes early to be there when I arrived for my appointment. Suzanne looked after every element of my care. During the procedure she didn’t leave my side, while keeping an eye on my obs (and her student nurse) she administered anti anxiety meds and Fentanyl throughout, as soon as I needed it, while also keeping me distracted with a puzzle book. Suzanne showed me an incredible level of care that I never expected was possible, and I’m certain it went far beyond what was expected of her.

I have immense gratitude toward Suzanne because I’ve suffered severe health and procedural anxiety for around 2 years, but thanks to Suzanne I found the experience manageable, and the whole experience has given me strength, mentally, that I’ll be able to go ahead with future interventions if necessary. I know that I will continue to benefit from the care Suzanne showed, in respect of managing my mental health in the future. I believe Suzanne is an exceptional nurse, and I wanted to show my recognition of her care in the most sincere way. Even the words above do not feel like enough to show my gratitude.

Thank you, Suzanne, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
