She always approached us with warmth and kindness, providing not only medical support but also emotional reassurance and a spark of joy during some of the most challenging moments of our lives.
I am honored to nominate Suzanne for the DAISY Award because of her exceptional compassion, professionalism, and knowledge while caring for my son, Ames. Throughout the many times my son has been under her care, she has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure we feel safe, supported, comfortable, and empowered.
My son was diagnosed with a brain tumor at six months old, and we have been "frequent flyers" at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's PICU over the last two and a half years dealing with complications around his health. We have been fortunate to have nurses like Suzanne to help us along this very stressful and complex road.
From the moment Suzanne entered the room, she made us feel genuinely cared for. She took the time to listen to our concerns and understand our needs, making my son feel like a priority rather than just another patient. She always approached us with warmth and kindness, providing not only medical support but also emotional reassurance and a spark of joy during some of the most challenging moments of our lives. She is quick with a smile, kind words of support, and lots of high-fives for our daughter.
Suzanne's expertise and advocacy have always been outstanding. She demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skill, ensuring that my son received the best possible care. For example, if we had concerns or felt lost about what the next steps would be, she would help us raise them with the care team and keep pushing until we felt satisfied or heard. It was clear that Suzanne is highly skilled and knowledgeable from her interactions with us and the care team. It is clear that the teams she works with also respect and appreciate her knowledge and input. Some of the best and much-needed rest we have had while in the PICU was when Suzanne was on our service because we knew she would know what to do if there was an issue. We trust her with my son's safety even when he's at his most fragile.
Thanks to Suzanne's care, we felt respected, valued, and empowered. I'm personally deeply grateful for her compassionate and fun approach, which made a lasting difference in our experience. Suzanne exemplifies the values of the nursing profession, and she is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
