I would like to acknowledge the outstanding care provided by my coworker to a family whose Veteran was in the process of passing on. There is a family who has declined hospice during this transition period because they are comfortable with the unit staff and the care being provided to their loved one here. The wife has not been apart from their husband in over 30 years and they have always slept side by side. The wife mentioned this to Suzette in conversation. Knowing that these are the patient's last days, Suzette wanted to bring the wife comfort in this time of despair, so she rearranged the room and turned the bed into an oversized bed to allow the wife to sleep comfortably next to her husband during his final days. Suzette went above and beyond to comfort the family and to grant this wife's last request. I feel like Suzette did an excellent job stepping outside the box to make the wife comfortable, and is worthy of the DAISY Award. I am very proud to work alongside a nurse with such genuine compassion for family members and the oath she took when becoming a nurse.
