I was postpartum and my mama was fighting for her life.
My Mom was put on the ventilator for COVID pneumonia the day after I gave birth. I was postpartum and my mama was fighting for her life. I needed my Mom so badly. Twelve days after I gave birth, Mom had been off quarantine and they were taking her off the ventilator. I left my three-year-old and newborn with their Dad and went to visit Mom. I was terrified. I only had one vaccine at the time and I didn’t want to end up like Mom or bring COVID home to my newborn and unvaccinated family. Suzie Blasi helped me with the hazmat suit, PPE gear, and gave me instructions on how to protect myself so I could see my Mom. She went over Mom’s condition with me and was so positive about her recovery and the future. She showed so much love and kindness to me and my Mom. Suzie is the best. We love her. I’m enclosing a picture of my Mom meeting her grandbaby on her first day home from the hospital - a moment we didn’t know we would get.

Caring for family members is such an important part of our patients’ care. Thank you Suzie and the MICU team for making such a difference not only for our COVID patients but for their families as well.
