Sydney Fritz, RN is a new grad who started as a clinical observer, advanced to certified nursing assistant, and has successfully achieved her BS in nursing while working for Meritus. Time and again, Sydney has proven her ability to learn, grow, adapt, and overcome. Sydney exemplifies what it means to reach for your goals and excels at achieving them. Sydney is accountable, genuinely empathetic, and one of the fastest learners I have ever had the pleasure of working with. As an ANS, I know that I can count on Sydney to always go the extra effort without being asked. Sydney has worked for the float pool throughout the Covid-19 pandemic as a new graduate. For the past few months, Sydney has also been carrying her first child while adapting to our new PPE norm. Initially, Sydney was "thrown" into the resource role on 2S due to one of the other resource nurses calling off sick; however, I had complete confidence in Sydney's capability. Sydney always rises to the occasion and surpasses some of her more seasoned peers in her ability to think quickly and troubleshoot patient care. Sydney is truly one of the best new grads I have seen in years. It isn't just any nurse who is capable of stepping into the role of resource RN for the Covid unit (again, wearing PPE while pregnant!). Sydney shines during interactions with her patients, is adored by her co-workers, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her career. I am very proud to have the pleasure of working with a new grad of her caliber and hope that Sydney will be recognized for her kindness, intelligence, and compassion.
