Sydney walked into my son’s room one night when we were still feeling so raw from his leukemia diagnosis. She was bubbly, talkative, energetic, and so very fun. We had the good fortune to have her as his nurse for several nights in a row. While in the midst of chemo, a new cancer diagnosis, and all kinds of shock and sadness, Sydney was a bright spot. She encouraged my son to get out of bed, leave his room, eat a snack, just basically try to do normal things. The night my son decided to shave his head, she “celebrated” the transition with him. They were laughing and making the most of the moment. Sydney is so kind, but more than that. She makes me feel like my son isn’t sick. As a worried anxious parent, that means so much!
